Third and Fourth Grade
The upper elementary years are a pivotal time for your child’s development, marked by significant milestones in academic, social, and emotional growth. At Abiding Savior Lutheran School, we understand these critical stages and strive to provide a safe and supportive environment where your child can thrive.
In 3rd and 4th grade, students flourish under a traditional approach to education in a close-knit, values-aligned community. Aided by hands-on, project-based learning, students are challenged to reach their full potential with enhanced critical thinking, reading comprehension, and complex problem-solving skills.
Our students learn new math concepts and practice daily with the guidance of their teacher, who takes plenty of time to answer questions and clarify instructions. We make sure our students have the necessary building blocks of math concepts to succeed in middle school.
Our goal is for students to leave elementary school with a genuine love of reading and a firm grasp of important grammatical and writing skills. In 3rd and 4th grade they develop the skills to go from learning to read to reading to learn. Our teachers accomplish this by introducing students to novels of various genres and guiding them in writing personal narrative stories.
History is the story of our world, and we strive to give our students an honest and accurate understanding of it in the classroom. The world is not a perfect place, but learning about it with honesty and through the lens of a Christian worldview allows students to become thoughtful and informed young people.
We integrate Scripture into all our classes, not just during a religion class. Each week, students learn memory verses and discuss their meanings and how they apply to their lives and relationship with God. Biblical principles are woven into every subject, ensuring that no area of study is off-limits for connecting to our faith and personal growth.
It is imperative that students begin to identify ways they are able to best organize their classroom activities and tasks. Students are taught executive functioning skills to help them grow as independent learners.
Our elementary students enjoy field trips throughout the year, which broaden and enhance their classroom learning. Our annual trip to Shaw Nature Reserve incorporates ideas from social studies and science, highlighting Missouri’s unique qualities.
Every fourth grader is paired with a kindergarten student, giving them the opportunity to teach and mentor younger students.
The connection you have with your children’s teachers is wonderful. It allows for further transparency into your child’s behavior/academics in school as well as a heads up on things you can do on the homefront to boost the curriculum they are learning… Simply put, my family loves Abiding Savior Lutheran School. By the way, Pastor Parvey and Pastor/Principal Ryherd (I’m sure the entire staff does as well) know every kid’s name at the school and greet them at the door every day by name. THAT MEANS THE WORLD TO ME AS A PARENT!!!!!!!
Our experience at Abiding Savior has been absolutely wonderful. The Christ-centered education with caring teachers and involved families make it a welcoming community where I know my son is learning and growing – academically, emotionally and socially. We could not ask for a better education and community that matches our family’s values!
I graduated from Abiding Savior in 2012 and still have yet to find a kind, inclusive, and Christ-centered environment that could even compare to Abiding Savior’s. Between the staff and the education provided at Abiding Savior, there is simply no school like it in town.
I have two boys and they both attend the Early Childhood program at Abiding Savior. We have had a wonderful experience there for the past three years. I feel like my children are loved and cared for by the teachers as if they were their own. They provide a great educational environment as well. My children have grown as students and people. We are grateful to have a place like Abiding Savior Lutheran School.
The school and staff are all amazing. I can’t say enough about this school. I have three boys, and not only do they prepare them for High School, but they also prepare them for life in the real world. My wife and I wanted a school where our boys could not only get a good education but, more importantly, learn about their character as a person, all while growing in their walk with God. You have to find what’s best for you, and for me, we found that here.
My son just completed his Prek 3’s year at Abiding Savior. I am very impressed with how much he has learned this past year but what I love most about his growth is his love for Jesus! He come home singing new Jesus songs and telling me all about the Bible story they read that day. The atmosphere and teachers are very caring, nurturing and engaging!
