Bud and Joan Jaudes were among the first to join, feeling divinely led to this new church. They, along with a small task force led by Reverend Ed Lang, organized the first worship service, held on November 27, 1983, in the old school’s gymnasium. By the following year, the congregation had grown to 56 charter members, and Abiding Savior Lutheran Church was officially established.
In the fall of 1984, Washington Lutheran School opened its doors, offering classes from kindergarten through 8th grade, along with an early childhood program. The school’s first principal was Joe Bordeaux, with his wife Betty Bordeaux serving as the Early Childhood Director.
Growth continued, and in 1992, Abiding Savior purchased a vacant Baptist church lot on Butler Hill Road, allowing the preschool to move to the new location. By the year 2000, the church had an average worship attendance in the 400s. Construction began on the Worship & Family Life Center, a multipurpose facility serving as both a sanctuary and a gymnasium, which was dedicated on December 16, 2001.
In 2004, the school was relocated to the new church property and renamed Abiding Savior Lutheran School. The 2004/2005 school year began with a full kindergarten class, an elementary student body of 143, and an early childhood program with 106 students.
Today Abiding Savior Lutheran School has more than 275 students Pre-K3 through 8th Grade. ASLS is accredited by the National Lutheran Schools Accreditation (NLSA) and Missouri Non-Public School Accreditation.
Abiding Savior Lutheran School’s mission is to provide students with the knowledge, skills, habits, and experiences to prepare them fully to maximize their intellectual, physical, interpersonal, and spiritual potential to impact their world by glorifying God and serving people.
Abiding Savior Lutheran School, a ministry of Abiding Savior Lutheran Church, is dedicated to partnering with our families to nurture the whole child to follow Jesus’ example to “Grow in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.” (Luke 2:52)
We believe that God has given the primary responsibility for nurturing and training children to parents. Our Christian day school is the main agency within the church to assist and help parents accomplish this important responsibility.
