At Abiding Savior Lutheran School (ASLS), we are dedicated to supporting all student learners through evidence-based intervention strategies, especially those with unique learning needs.
The goal of our Academic Success Center (ASC) is to help students develop essential academic survival skills to support their independence and accountability. These skills include study techniques, time management, and managing homework assignments.
The ASC provides individualized support either within the classroom or through specialized services outlined in a student’s Service Plan or 504 Plan.
The ASC is led by Mrs. Cindy Mueller, M.Ed, COTA/L & Specialized Reading, and aide, Mrs. Mary Bock.
If a student has a medical diagnosis or educational identification that warrants a Service Plan or 504 Plan, evaluation reports should be shared with the Special Education Teacher. Parents will then be contacted to develop or update the necessary plans.
Classroom teachers and parents can also identify students who are struggling. Together, the classroom teacher and Special Education Teacher will develop an Academic Intervention Plan. This plan includes strategies to teach new skills, build fluency, or help students apply existing skills to new situations, ensuring the best opportunity for success with minimal disruption to their schedule.
If you suspect your child has a learning delay or disability, you are encouraged to inform the Special School District of St. Louis County. Parents should contact SSD’s intake office at (314) 989-8125 to initiate the referral process. You will receive a packet with instructions for both the parent and school sections. Once completed, the special education teacher will submit the forms to the SSD Intake Office. You will then be notified by SSD about the DESE timelines for the referral process.
